Managing Wounds with Hydrofera Blue® Dressings
Wound healing is a complex and dynamic process, and stalled wounds may lead to increased risk of infection and prolonged healing times.
In this article, we will discuss the common types of wounds that Hydrofera Blue® wound dressings can help to manage and explore the benefits these dressings can offer healthcare providers and patients in their wound care journey.

Types of Wounds & Hydrofera Blue® Solutions
Proper wound care is essential for aiding in wound healing, preventing infection, and ensuring the best possible recovery. Hydrofera Blue® foam dressings are designed to effectively manage different types of wounds by providing antibacterial protection, moisture balance, and ease of use. Hydrofera Blue is safe and effective with acute and chronic wounds.
Most common chronic wound types
1. Pressure injuries
These wounds occur when the skin is placed under pressure. Pressure injuries can cause swelling and soreness and leak exudate (drainage) from the wound bed.
Hydrofera Blue CLASSIC® is a suitable dressing option for pressure injuries. It wicks away exudate from the wound bed with natural negative pressure, resulting in a non-toxic healing environment that kills bacteria in the foam.
2. Arterial wounds
Arterial ulceration occurs when there is a reduced supply of blood flow to the lower parts of the limb. It is caused by poor circulation and usually occurs in the legs and feet. These wounds can be extremely painful.
Hydrofera Blue READY® can be used to manage arterial ulcers. The dressing maintains a moist wound environment without the need for hydration and has a wear time of up to seven days. The dressing also enables autolytic debridement, which removes harmful tissue from the wound bed.
3. Venous leg ulcers
Venous leg ulcers usually occur in patients where a lack of blood flow in the veins disrupts the body’s natural ability to heal wounds . As a result of a lack of blood flow, there is increased edema in the legs. In addition, there may be a high level of exudate leakage from the wound bed.
Hydrofera Blue TRANSFER® is a non-cytotoxic dressing, suitable for wounds with higher exudate. The exudate is transferred into a secondary dressing for added protection and is compatible with compression therapy.
4. Diabetic foot ulcers
Diabetic foot ulcers may occur in a diabetic patient as a result of poor circulation, nerve damage, and high blood sugar.
Depending on the location, size, and amount of wound exudate, the Hydrofera Blue® portfolio offers a range of polyvinyl alcohol and polyurethane dressings.
